Bright goes for double gold as Frazier captures first PPA mixed doubles title
Anna Bright/Dylan Frazier closed out a wildly entertaining Championship Sunday with an 11-13, 11-6, 11-9, 11-2 victory over No. 3 seeds Jessie Irvine/Gabe Tardio.
Even though they hadn’t played a tournament together since 2023 before this week, Bright/Frazier have extensive experience sharing the court from early on in their pro careers.
That chemistry was on full display throughout the week at the Baird Center.
“[Anna] is such a great competitor, and she really does bring out the best in me and make me want to fight for every point and every game,” Frazier said.
This win is good for Bright’s second gold of the day and Frazier’s first career mixed doubles title on the PPA Tour.
“To say I’m thrilled would be an understatement, and to do it alongside Anna makes it that much more special,” he mentioned.
This result is also important with regard to who will make the CIBC PPA Tour Finals in mixed doubles. Irvine will now just miss out on overtaking Rachel Rohrabacher for the final qualifying spot; a title this week was the only result that would have pushed her into the top 8.
In the bronze medal match, No. 6 seeds Meghan Dizon/Andrei Daescu outdueled No. 7 seeds Tyra Black/Hayden Patriquin 11-9, 9-11, 11-3 to secure their first podium finish as a partnership.
